Nuclear electricity - Separative work unit - the amount of separation used in an enrichment process to produce nuclear electricity

Note: "Separative work unit" or "separative work unit" is the amount of separation in an enrichment process, which is a function of the concentration of unenriched, enriched and slag material and with units proportional to the total input (energy/machine operation time) . And the crime is stated.

Separation work is not the same as energy; And for the same amount of work unit, it requires different energy depending on the efficiency of the separation method. The cylinder's fast rotating centrifuge produces a very strong centrifugal force, during which the heavier molecules (those containing the uranium 238 isotope) move away from the center of the rotation axis, and on the contrary, the lighter molecules (containing the isotope (uranium 235) more) They are placed around the axis of the centrifuge.

In uranium enrichment by gas centrifuge method, a large number of rotating cylinders are used which are placed side by side in parallel and series. A centrifuge is a cylindrical device that has blades in the middle just like an airplane turbine. These blades rotate more than 100,000 times per minute. As a result of this rotation, the heavy uranium is placed on the end wall of the centrifuge and the light uranium is next to it. It seems that thousands of centrifuges must be placed together so that we can enrich uranium, which means that uranium cannot be enriched with one or more centrifuges.

Nuclear power units that work with light water are usually operated with 2-5% uranium 235. In a reactor, usually 3 resistors will be used simultaneously to equalize the neutron flux and produce uniform heat and energy. So that during refueling during the operation of the reactor, fuel with more richness is placed on the outer side of the fuel assemblies of the heart of the reactor, and after about 12 to 18 months, the next refueling is done and by placing new uranium, the spent assembly is removed from the center. The core of the reactor will be removed and the new fuel will move from the outer environment to the middle and the medium-rich fuel will occupy the place of the less-rich fuel.

Conclusion:

"Separative work unit" or "separative work unit" is the amount of separation in an enrichment process that is a function of the concentration of unenriched, enriched and slag material and with units proportional to the total input (energy/machine operation time) and mass  It is expressed.
