Note: (High-Capacity-PLD) CPLDs have more than 600 usable gates and include CPLDs and FPGAs. FPGAs have discrete internal connections, while CPLDs have continuous internal connections. In the construction of CPLDs, EEPROM, EPROM, Sram and Anti-Fuse are used.

Digital ICs use logic gates , which only work with ones and zeros. A low signal sent to a component in a digital IC will produce a value of 0, while a high signal will produce a value of 1. Digital ICs are the type you'll commonly find in computers, networking equipment, and most consumer electronics. Analog or linear ICs work with continuous values. This means that one component in a linear IC can take another value and output another value. The term linear is used because the output value is a linear function of the input. For example, a component in a linear IC might multiply the input value by a factor of 2.5 and obtain the result.
